Notes from BarcelonaMan:

Barcelona, the capital of the Catalonia ("Cataluña") Autonomous Region in Spain, makes a profound impact upon the first-time and many-time visitor. From the twisting, narrow, pedestrian streets of the Gothic Quarter ("Barrio Gótico", "Barri Gòtic") to the elegant gridded streets of Eixample you'll virtually lose yourself in another world, in another time, and - according to many Catalánes - in another country altogether. Barcelona has many "French-like" features as well as few which are similar to the Iberian Spain.
Early 19th Century artist Antonio Gaudí's influences are found absolutely everywhere throughout the city. It's inescapable. Gaudí's art is not-so-subtly dabbled over Barcelona from his Sagrada Familia, to his designed buildings in Eixample, to his own virtual theme park in Parc Güell. In Barcelona do they speak Spanish or Catalán? Actually, BOTH! You'll enjoy Barcelona for Barcelona's sake - I assure you!

At BarcelonaMan.com you'll find plenty of Barcelona information if you're planning a trip to this beautiful city or other destinations in Spain. If you've been to Barcelona before you're likely already planning a return trip to take another taste of this Mediterranean treasure.

Barcelona wins Copa del Rey 2009
I don't normally write about sports topics on my blogs but this one warranted mention. Last night, F.C. Barcelona beat Athletic de Bilbao 4-1 to secure their 25th Copa del Rey title, their first since 1998.

After Athletic de Bilbao's initial goal by Gaizca Toquero 9-minutes into the match, Barcelona answered with goals by Yaya Toure, Lionel Messi, Bojan Krkic, and Xavi Hernandez.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona Movie Review Summary
Yesterday, I finally saw the (written & directed) Woody Allen movie, "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" (official website link at left - not Firefox-friendly, though). It was good! Not great, but definitely good.

The movie stars the Allen-fave Scarlett Johansson as "Cristina", Rebecca Hall as "Vicky" (who doesn't even get top-three billing!), and Spaniards Javier Bardem & Penélope Cruz - who has the smallest role of all and yet gets SECOND-billing. The latter surprises me only somewhat. Rebecca Hall, while lesser known, has every bit of time onscreen as Scarlett Johansson but her name is lost in the "Also appearing" credits at the bottom of the movie poster.
